Brian Watkins: Founder & Strategist of The SEOptimist
Development of The SEOptimist
Over the years, Brian Watkins spent time working in and alongside different marketing agencies, picking up experience, perspective, and a clearer sense of how the industry operates.
Eventually, that led him to step away and form his own LLC, not to start over, but to take a more intentional approach to the kind of work he wanted to do.
There was a lot to take from agency life. The pace, the exposure, the variety of projects. But over time, something else became harder to ignore. The work often felt transactional, with relationships taking a back seat to output.
And the more Brian spoke with business owners, the more he realized that experience wasn’t unique to him.
It kept coming up in different ways. Different industries. Same underlying frustration.
So the question became: What would this look like if it were done differently?
A Practical Approach to Writing
While Brian has formally studied writing and social psychology, most of what he shares comes from years of experimentation, personal growth, and simply paying attention to how people respond to language. A lot of that has come from direct conversations. Asking people what resonates, what turns them off, and how they prefer to be spoken to.
Over time, patterns start to emerge.
As part of his broader mission to be a useful resource, Brian has published simple, practical tips that business owners can use to improve rapport and make their messaging more compelling.
Marketing Videos & Blog Content
For those who aren’t in a position to hire an agency or SEO consultant, or who prefer to handle things in-house, Brian Watkins has consistently created instructional content on this blog and on YouTube to help demystify how SEO actually works.
The goal isn’t to oversimplify it. It’s to make it understandable for those willing to learn.
And for those Brian works with directly, this effort serves another purpose. It keeps him sharp, reinforces the conversations he’s already having with clients, and creates a shared foundation to build from.
